We currently do not have a standing safety committee but would welcome any association members input or leadership in this area.

The Board  appreciates the effort and contributions of the disbanded Safety committee. The committee members were: Jason Rosauer, Grahm Hunter, Dick Armstrong, Jane Bench

The Pine Lake Estates safety committee was established in 2001 in response to concerns about the number and speed of the vehicles that pass thorough our neighborhood.  The committee was directed to interact with the City of Sammamish to explore possible modifications to the speed limit, signage and roadway.

The committee met with the City of Sammamish in 2002 to review what might be possible so far as changes to posted speed limits within the neighborhood, methods to reduce speed and closing off SE 34th Way.

An engineer for the City stated that the speed limits are based upon the national unified standard and that any deviation from that standard can increase the liability of the City and it is unlikely that the City would approve a change to the posted speed limit. The engineer stated that a traffic volume study would be the first step to identify if increased stop signs, stop lights etc, were warranted.

The ensuing traffic study indicated that the volume of cars coming through the neighborhood did not warrant increased signage and could if they were to be implemented, increase the problem as drivers tend to accelerate away from stop lights and stop signs.

The City offered to stripe the street and shoulders of the road and or install speed bumps within Pine Lake Estates as a speed mitigating factor. The City of Sammamish offered the use of temporary speed bumps to help us decide if that was the direction we wanted to go. The HOA Board and the Safety committee upon consultation with responding members, decided that speed bumps and street stripping was not desirable at the time.

The City of Sammamish did not seem overjoyed with the concept of closing SE 34th Way off to through traffic as it is their stated goal to connect the neighborhoods as a means to build a closer community.

The PLE HOA Board apologizes if the above summation of the interactions between the City of Sammamish and Pine Lake Estates HOA is not 100% accurate, it is based upon the recollection of current Board members.
